Finishes

Finishes

Please understand the difference between stones. SG&M is an importer of finished slabs, providing the cutting and installation service. SG&M is not responsible for inconsistency regarding finishes and thickness of slabs. This process takes place in overseas manufacturing plants owned and operated by our suppliers. We import the slabs as a finished material. Therefore, we encourage all customers to view and select their slabs at our facilities prior to any contract for the service we provide.

Polished

This surface is glossy and smooth. The high gloss finish is made possible because of the crystals found in natural stone with abrasive and ultimately finer grit polish powder; until the crystal facets on the surface are flat across.

Honed

This surface has little or no sheen and is smooth. Unlike polish stone, coarse abrasives leaving it with a matt finish. Honed finishes will require more daily maintenance than polished finishes. Shade variations are more obvious on honed finishes (especially black) than most stones.

Brushed

This innovative surface is honed with subtle surface indentation. The finish is achieved by applying stiff metal bristles over the surface and as a result a texture, low sheen soft edged look is achieved.

Leather

This finish is imitates a river-washed effect. As if the softer portion of the stone has been eroded by a natural stream over many, many years. To the touch it has a slightest texture as you run your fingers over it. It also takes most of the shine, although we can color enhance it to bring the uniqueness of the stone color back. But it will remain a matte finish.
